Uvalde County, TXGenWeb
Welcome to Uvalde County!

Uvalde is situated on the west side of San Antonio and is about half way between San Antonio and Del Rio. It's a fairly large county but not nearly as large as our West Texas constituents. The county was created in 1850 and organized in 1856. It's named for Juan de Ugalde (17291816), a Spanish governor of Coahuila. Uvalde County was founded by Reading Wood Black who also founded the city of Uvalde, Texas, our county seat.
Some well-known people from Uvalde County are Dolph Briscoe, a former governor, Dale Evans, partner and wife of Roy Rogers, and Matthew McConaughey.
We are bordered on the north by Edwards, Real and Bandera counties; on the east by Medina, to the west is Kinney and south is Zapata.
