- I found several references that give her last name as COOPER. Unfortunately there are two Leander Mahans born in Virginia and lived in West Virginia. Ours evidently married two women called Mattie. The 2nd Mattie, surname ANTILL married Leander in 1901 so she isn't the mother of Ernest. I have been unable to find anything for our Mattie other than an unverified memorial at FindaGrave.
