Thomas Gary Barnhill
CLARENDON - Thomas Gary Barnhill, 84, died Friday, July
4, 2003.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Robertson Funeral
Home, Chapel of Memories, with the Rev. Ned Creswell,
Episcopal minister of Amarillo, officiating. Masonic
graveside services and burial will be in Citizens
Cemetery.
Mr. Barnhill was born June 19, 1919, in Crockett. He
married Nell Williams in 1939. He served in the Army
infantry in World War II at Camp Fannin in Tyler and with
the Allied Military Government in Korea.
After his military service, he and Nell owned and
operated the Farmer's Supply in Turkey. In 1955, they
moved to Clarendon and built the Sandell Drive In
Theater.
He later purchased the Mulkey Theater and operated both
movie venues for more than 30 years. In 1968, he opened
Barney's Marine and operated it until May 2003.
He was a member of Clarendon Masonic Lodge No. 700 and
was a past master and past district deputy grand master.
Gary, or "Barney", as he was affectionately
called, was a friend and mentor to countless people.
He was a dear, beloved husband, father and grandfather to
his family. He loved his family and friends and will be
sorely missed by all. He loved Clarendon and always said
"Clarendon's been good to us."
Survivors include his wife of 64 years; two daughters,
Sandi Barnhill-Harris and husband of Amarillo, and Adele
Barnhill-Lee and husband of Arlington, Wash.; a sister,
Jeanette Case; sisters-in-law, Lois Grupe Warrenburg and
Mary Barnhill; a brother-in-law, Jack Williams and wife;
grandchildren, Tami Logsdon of Amarillo, Darin Davis and
wife, Brenda, of Green Bay, Wis., Gary Sherr and wife,
Tamara, and Tripp Sherr, all of Arlington, Wash.;
great-grandchildren, Hope and Kristin Logsdon;
great-great-grandchildren, Hannah Logsdon and Lexi and
Dakota Sherr; and several nieces and nephews.
The family suggests memorials be to Citizens Cemetery
Association, P.O. Box 7, Clarendon, TX 79226; or to
Clarendon College Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 968,
Clarendon, TX 79226.

Mattie Elizabeth Rhodes
Chamberlain
CLARENDON - Mattie Elizabeth Rhodes Chamberlain, 94, died
Sunday, July 13, 2003, in Carrollton.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Robertson
Funeral Directors Chapel of Memories with the Rev. James
Ivey Edwards, pastor of First United Methodist Church,
officiating. Burial will be in Citizens Cemetery.
Mrs. Chamberlain was born Dec. 13, 1908, in Stamford. She
was a former resident of Claude and then Amarillo before
moving to Carrollton three years ago. She married
Benjamin Emory Chamberlain on May 20, 1944, in Amarillo.
She attended West Texas Teachers College (now WTAMU) and
taught school for several years in Ashtola, Chamberlain
and Claude.
She had worked in the Armstrong County Tax
Assessor-Collector's Office and for the Armstrong County
Agent for several years. She was a member of the
Armstrong County Business Women's Club and the Senior
Citizens Club. She was a member of First United Methodist
Church in Claude and had previously served as church
secretary for several years.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Oct. 4, 1976.
Survivors include two daughters, Judy Benese Scherrer of
Boulder City, Nev. and Prarie Counce of Carrollton; seven
sisters, Jewell Stewart, Irene Jones and Betty McElvoy,
all of Amarillo, Ailene McElroy of Clarendon, Ruth Riley
and Dorothy Adamson, both of Dewey, Ariz., and Johnnie
Adamson of Bakersfield, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

Robert L. "Bob"
Thompson
HOWARDWICK - Robert L. "Bob" Thompson, 82, died
Friday, July 11, 2003, in Tyler.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in
Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors Colonial Chapel in
Pampa with John Love, pastor of Trinity Fellowship Church
of Amarillo, officiating. Burial will be in Memory
Gardens Cemetery in Pampa.
Mr. Thompson was an Army veteran, serving in the Pacific
Theater during World War II. He had lived in the
Panhandle area most of his life.
Survivors include a son, Robert L. Thompson of Las Vegas,
N.M.; three stepsons, Bill McPherson of Fairborn, Ohio,
Jimmy McPherson of Elk City, Okla., and John McPherson of
Lake Palestine; several grandchildren; and many
great-grandchildren.

Waymon Arliss Holt
HOWARDWICK - Waymon Arliss Holt, 74, died Friday, July
25, 2003 at Temple.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Robertson Funeral
Directors Chapel of Memories in Clarendon with the Rev.
Curtis Johnson, nephew of Mr. Holt, and Stephen Paulson
of Temple officiating. Burial will be in Citizens
Cemetery.
Mr. Holt was born Sept. 13, 1928 in Electra and was a
longtime resident of Amarillo before moving to Howardwick
14 years ago. He was a retired master plumber. He married
Edith Irene Prather on June 15, 1961, at Farmington, N.M.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a
former prisoner of war in Germany. He was a Baptist.
He was preceded in death by his wife on Dec. 17, 1995,
and a brother, Lonnie Holt.
Survivors include a daughter, Karla Durfee of Temple;
five sons, Everett Eugene Willis, Marlin Willis, Ronald
Willis and Lonnie Willis, all of Amarillo, and Victor
Holt of Temple; three sisters, Vera Barnes and Ruth
Kinney, both of Wheeler; and Glenda of New Mexico; two
brothers, Coyce Holt of New Mexico, and Kenneth Holt of
Fort Worth; 16 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Casket and honorary bearers will be the grandsons.
