Jack Thomas Leeper
CLARENDON - Jack Thomas Leeper, 67, died Tuesday, April
8, 2003, in Amarillo.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Community
Fellowship Church in Clarendon with the Rev. Bryan
Knowles, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Citizens
Cemetery by Robertson Funeral Directors.
Mr. Leeper was born Jan. 29, 1936, in Washburn, and had
been a resident of Donley County most of his life. He
married Scharlett Sue Banister on May 22, 1958, in
Hedley. He was employed by Texas Department of
Transportation for 27 years before retiring as an
assistant supervisor in 1998.
He was a member and deacon of Community Fellowship
Church. He had also served as a deacon of Martin Baptist
and First Baptist churches. He was music director at
Martin Baptist Church for 15 years and had served as
music director at many revivals, and provided special
music for many other events.
He was preceded in death by twin daughters, Lonna Sue and
Donna Lou in 1961; his parents; a sister; and a brother.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Anna Gay
Leeper of Friona, Scharla Miller of Claude; two sons,
Tommy Leeper and Bryan Leeper, both of Clarendon; a
sister, Lafern Gibson of New Jersey; three brothers,
Wilburn Leeper of Quitaque, Benny Leeper of Belton,
Verrell Leeper of Kansas; and eight grandchildren.

Marie Reynolds McCracken
CLARENDON - Marie Reynolds McCracken, 91, died Saturday,
April 12, 2003, in Amarillo.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Robertson Chapel of
Memories with the Rev. Bryan Knowles, pastor of Community
Fellowship Church, and the Rev. Darrell Burton, pastor of
Martin Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in
Citizens Cemetery by Robertson Funeral Directors Inc.
Mrs. McCracken was born Aug. 5, 1911, in Clark County,
Ark. She had been a resident of Alanreed before moving to
Clarendon 30 years ago. She married George McCracken on
Nov. 7, 1931, in Clarendon. She graduated from Groom
Medical Nursing School and had worked as an LVN for 26
years at Groom, Shamrock and McClean hospitals.
She retired from the McLean hospital after 13 years of
service and then worked at Medical Center Nursing Home in
Clarendon for six years before her final retirement. She
was a member of the LVN Association and the VFW Ladies
Auxiliary. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels for
several years and was a member of Martin Baptist Church.
Casket bearers will be her grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her husband on May 2, 1964;
a daughter, Patsy McCracken Cox in 1987; two sons, Bobby
Lee McCracken in 1932 and George Dale McCracken in 1934;
three sisters; and five brothers.
Survivors include a daughter, Peggy Cockerham of
Howardwick; a son, Ronald McCracken of Houston; two
sisters, Lorene McAnear of Clarendon and Martiel Webb of
Amarillo; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and
three great-great-grandchildren.

Kenneth J. Durham
CLARENDON - Kenneth J. Durham, 78, died Monday April 14,
2003, in Amarillo.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Llano
Cemetery with the Rev. Darrell Burton, pastor of Martin
Baptist Church in Clarendon, officiating. Arrangements
are by Rector Funeral Home of Amarillo, 2800 S. Osage St.
Mr. Durham was born in Brashears, Mo. He moved to
Clarendon in 1998 from Iowa. He worked in construction
for many years and was an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include two daughters, Christine Emerson of
Valencia, Calif., and Cindy Alpers of Santa Ynez, Calif.;
four sisters; four brothers; and 6 grandchildren.

Olace Hicks
CLARENDON - Olace Hicks, 85, died Friday, April 25, 2003
in Amarillo.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Community Fellowship
Church with the Rev. Bryan Knowles pastor, Bright
Newhouse, minister of Hedley Church of Christ, and the
Rev. James Ivey Edwards, pastor of First United Methodist
Church officiating. Burial will be in Citizens Cemetery
by Robertson Funeral Directors.
Mr. Hicks was born June 6, 1917, in Fannin County and had
been a resident of Clarendon since 1947. He married
Billie Blanche Fedric on July 25, 1938, in Cone. She
preceded him in death on Oct. 25, 1989.
He married Madelyn Amey Jones on Nov. 10, 1992, in
Clarendon. He was a heavy-equipment operator involved in
road construction for most of his life prior to his
retirement.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II and was a member of
Clarendon VFW Post No. 7782. He was a member of the
Donley County Senior Citizens Association and the Senior
Citizens Dance Club.
He was a former deacon in the Martin Baptist and First
Baptist Churches and was a former Donley County
commissioner. He was a member of the Community Fellowship
Church in Clarendon.
Casketbearers will be Steve Reynolds, Delmar Wiggs, Bud
White, Nelson Christie, Johnny Davis and Will
Chamberlain.
Honorary bearers will be Steve Fedric and Al Musgrove.
He was preceded in death by his first wife; four sisters;
two brothers; a half-sister; and a grandson, David Wayne
Hicks.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Loretta Harrison
of Amarillo; a stepdaughter, Pat Sellers and husband,
Michael, of Houston; two sons, Jerry Hicks and wife, Mary
John, of Quail, and Larry Hicks and wife, Donna, of
Clarendon; a stepson, Robert E. Jones Jr. and wife,
Donna, of Vienna, Va.; nine grandchildren; four
stepgrandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and five
step-great-grandchildren.
