Carson County Time Line

1876 - Carson County Created from Bexar District

1880s - Several ranches appeared, including the JA Ranch of Charles Goodnight & John Adair, the Turkey Track Ranch, the White Deer Ranch, 6666 Ranch

1886 - Southern Kansas Railway reached Texas. Panhandle City was founded in 1887 as a temporary railhead. Rail line reached town in 1888.

1887 - Settlers began to file on lands in Carson Co.

June 1888 - Panhandle City became Panhandle. Panhandle became county seat when county was organized.

1889 - Church organized & courthouse built.

1890 - Population 356, 28 ranches or farms

1900 - Population 469

1921 - Oil & Natural Gas Discovered in Carson County

1930 - Population 7,745

1950 - Population 6,840

1990 - Population 6576
